They also operate inside the browser, where people handle some of their most private information. A useful tool may still request more access than it needs.<\/p>\n<p>Browsers should provide one clear permission dashboard. Users ought to see which extensions can read all websites, which are active only on selected pages, and which can change search results or track activity. The most powerful permissions should be highlighted rather than buried among harmless settings.<\/p>\n<p>Access should be adjustable without uninstalling the entire extension. A user might allow a writing tool on one document site while blocking it from banking and health pages. Temporary permission, granted only when the extension icon is clicked, would reduce unnecessary exposure.<\/p>\n<p>The dashboard should also identify extensions that have not been used recently, changed ownership, or added new permissions after an update. Those events can alter the risk even when the extension\u2019s name and icon remain familiar. Clear notices would give users a reason to review rather than accept changes automatically.<\/p>\n<p>Developers need fair rules as well. Permission descriptions should use consistent language so legitimate extensions are not punished for being honest while vague competitors appear safer. Stores should review unusual access requests and remove abandoned software with known security problems.<\/p>\n<p>People cannot manage risks they cannot see. A browser already knows what each extension can do.
